it's a sad trend that president carter has begun (and which has been picked up on by president clinton) of commenting on the standing president. to me it only seems to diminish their own stature; it makes them appear classless and deperate for the power they no longer hold. the argument can be made that any citizen has a right to comment on any topic, but the celebrity of a former president can't be ignored. these guys aren't regular citizens. they were, and are, a symbol of our nation. too bad they've chosen to snipe from the wings instead of leading by quiet example: we may disagree on policy, but we're united as a people. oh well. one more good tradition down the drain.
