Kong!
Just got out of a screening of King Kong (a day before release, nyeah, nyeah, nyeah).
For my money, Jackson has hit it out of the park again. It is not too long at 3 hours. (Just over 3 by my watch, before the credits start, as opposed to the just under 3 claimed by the studio.)
Lots of nice touches. Oodles of amazing set pieces. Laughter. Tears. Pathos. Giant bugs. And you gotta love a movie that puts screenwriters in cages.

...does that mean it wouldn't be "out of the park" if you'd actually payed money??
Har! Hoist by me own rhetoric. To be clear, I did see it for free, but this is a movie I wouldn't mind paying for. In fact, I probably will.
As for the movie being too long, as others have opined, I'll say that it's too long the same way Thanksgiving Dinner is too big. I enjoyed every calorie, but can understand how someone's opinion might differ.
